you may have worked it out by now, but i'm a commercial & editorial photographer.
i shoot people, food + interiors and love each of them. often i am lucky enough to combine all three in one shot!
tgp is equipped to handle all aspects of production for shoots of any scale.
two fairly dull facts:
• based in dallas, tx.
• shooting professionally since 2000 (and for free since a long time before that!)
bfa studio art (the degree most likely to result in fast money)
university of texas at austin (hook 'em!)
some useless & possibly not even interesting information:
i really like hamburgers & lower case letters.
my husband is british, i drive a mini, eat marmite on toast for breakfast and i lived on shakespeare place. thinking i might qualify as an anglophile. ; )
i had a pekingese named mogwai who lived to 19.5 and will be part of my heart and soul always and forever. to experience his magic visit his IG page here.
we rescued two senior pekes (gertie mei & charlie fu) in mogwai's honor and what do you know? now they have an IG page, too!
while we are on that topic... my insta-page is glangergram
i'm basically tech support to everyone i know with an iPhone #backupcareeratthegeniusbar
scientists have yet to pinpoint a 'photography' gene, but... my grandfather was the head of a photographic society in south africa, my uncle was a commercial photographer, my dads first job was in a camera store so.... (imagine twilight zone music) #dork
for those who would prefer a serious artist's statement vs. the twaddle above — here is my attempt:
i graduated with a bfa in studio art with a heavy concentration on photography. i learned virtually nothing about becoming a working photographer, but having my roots in fine art always felt like a good thing. it gave me an invaluable understanding and reverence for the art and it really hones ones ability to "see".
when i pour through the vortex of commercial work out there, i find there is a seduction of styling and location that (sadly) works on too many people. i try to see beyond those things and look for what the photographer brought to the image. so — regardless of the external trappings of a shoot — i always strive to capture a genuine moment, seen in a unique and compelling way.
lastly, i care very much about delivering for my clients — it is their time, their money, their brand and if i’m chosen to represent it, i give 100%.
awards & stuff:
• 2020 silver ADDY award for "pro-bono marketing and specialty advertising" (i did the photography for the campaign)
• pdn photo annual website award winner
• portfolio of the month for pdn's photoserve
• featured in found folios 'festivity' and 'deluge' collections
• fourth annual alt pick awards - 3rd place / popular vote
• Gold: Fort Worth Child; "Boy or Girl" (Feb); Terri Glanger, photographer. What an amazing portrait to illustrate a story line that is inherently difficult to illustrate. An arresting photo all by itself, the headline prompts additional viewings that lead to layers of discovery. Terrific portrait, use of colors and ambiguity make this a compelling cover.
i like "quotes"
“if you want reality take the bus.” - David LaChapelle
"If i knew how to take a good photograph, I'd do it every time." - Robert Doisneau
"my idea of a good picture is one that's in focus and of a famous person." - Andy Warhol
"life beats down and crushes the soul and art reminds you that you have one." -Stella Adler
"the real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes" -Marcel Proust
a generous and beautiful compliment i received about my work: "you capture immediacy, and find poetry in the mundane moment" - Deb Abramson Kirby
"photography takes me on a unique journey... it’s reality & illusion in one and it leaves a little piece of something permanent behind..." - yours truly
"i think a photograph should be less about what was seen, than how it was seen" - yours truly
anything else you wanna know, just ask! : )
